Whispers Upside Down (2024)
Sculpture (Egg, C-Stand), Video (Poem) loop, Soundscape loop

An egg is balanced on a heavy-duty tripod, creating a fragile atmosphere around it, while the poem loops in the video in an esoteric and mystical manner. Inspired by the chapter <Nests> from the book <The Poetics of Space> by Gaston Bachelard, this work suggests an introspection into our inner world: is the ambivalent function of comfort serving us? How is it like to expose our vulnerability? What unresolved grief and fantasy do we carry?

This work was developed for the group exhibition <Breeding Habits>, which took place from Jan. 18.- Feb. 11. 2024 at Space Plast, in Leipzig, Germany. Invited artists received physical bird nests collected by the curator/artist Inka Hilsenbek. The nests were served as objects for associations and the projection surface. In the further process, however, the artists decided freely how and whether the nest is physically integrated into the work.

Whispers Upside Down

breed a bed to bleed on
breed a breath to believe in

fallen saturn and mars crushed into powder
stir it well drink it upside down

through my weeping meat meet your darkest warmth
calcinate you inside out until the dawn has missed you out

your voice, the witch, your echos, the demons
barricade inside out
whisper in the name of mundane dreams

How reasonable you are!
Praise your murmuring desires
